Mathew 24: 3 .......what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 4And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Earthquakes in different places is one of the key signs Jesus mentions as a signs of the latter days. We know there have always been earthquakes through out the history of the world.
The Bible records several earth quaking events.
In the book of Exodus God told Moses he would come down on mount Sinai in sight of the people. The mountain moved at the presence of God.
Exodus 19:18And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.
God shows His power over the earth and His exceptional targeting ability. God sends this quakes specifically targeting humans.
Numbers 16:23And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 24Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. 25And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him. 26And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins. 27So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children. 28And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind. 29If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD hath not sent me. 30But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. 31And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them: 32And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. 33They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation. 34And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.
I've always heard you're safest out in the middle of an open field during an earthquake. I guess that wasn't considering if God is out to get you. This is certainly a display of God's power over the earth. Once God becomes angry, there are different ways He sends judgment. Earthquakes being one of them.
Psalms 18:7 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.
Here again we see once God became angry the earth shook.
2 Samuel 22:7In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears. 8Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.
Other earthquakes recorded in the Bible happened during major events.
Matthew 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
When some of the nonbelievers nearby saw what was going on they became believers.
54Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God
So the earth quaked at His death and then again at His resurrection.
Matthew 28:1In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. 2And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
In Acts an earthquake actually helps Paul and Silas.
Acts 16:25And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. 26And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.
Once again showing the power of God. He can shake the earth at will. He can target specific areas if He desires.
Here in the present.
The experts seem to be a bit puzzled by what's going on. They are trying their best to make sense of it all.

We see again and again these experts are scratching their heads.
The Mayans were top notch astrologers. I believe their knowledge in these matters most certainly came from an angel. Namely Kukulcan. None the less, their calendar is on the money concerning planetary alignments. The Mayans knew that our Sun synchronizes with the enormous central galaxy every 26,000 years (December 21st, 2012).
This cosmic event produces changes in the Sun's magnetic field, which will cause the Sun to shine more intensely, producing what are known as 'solar flares' as well as displacement in the Earths rotation, and because of this, these catastrophes will be common as we move ever closer.
Jesus told us as the end draws near we will begin experiencing more of these quakes, and in different places.
We know erupting volcanoes and tsunami's go hand in hand with earthquakes.
Luke 21:25And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. Strong's complete dictionary of Bible words defines "distress" as calamity, and "perplexity" as - state of quandary, meaning - to have no way out, to be at a loss (mentally):- (stand in) doubt, to be perplexed.

Earthquake shakes hills near Rome

ROME - Italian authorities say a small earthquake has shaken the Alban Hills southeast of Rome. No injuries or damage have been reported.
Many people were awakened by the quake, which struck at 1:44 a.m.. Parts of eastern Rome also have reported feeling it.
Italy's Civil Protection Department says the quake had a 3.8 magnitude.
About 15 minutes after the quake, an aftershock shook the area of the epicenter, near the wine-growing towns of Frascati and Marino.
Ciampino, a town near the hills that has a small airport serving Rome, also reported feeling the tremors.

6.1 earthquake shakes Guatemala

GUATEMALA CITY - An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 has hit in southwestern Guatemala. Authorities say there are no immediate reports of injuries or major damage.
The U.S. Geological Survey reports that the quake was centered just offshore in the Pacific Ocean, about 45 miles south of the city of Escuintla. It struck Monday night a little after 9 p.m. local time (0300 GMT).
Guatemala disaster agency spokesman Benedicto Giron says power and telephone service were briefly interrupted.

Reno urged to prepare for worse as earthquakes continue

RENO, Nev. (AP) - Scientists urged residents of northern Nevada's largest city
to prepare for a bigger event as the area continued rumbling after the
largest earthquake in a two-month-long series of temblors.
More than 100 aftershocks were recorded on the western edge of the city after a
magnitude 4.7 quake hit Friday night, the strongest quake around Reno since one
measuring 5.1 in 1953, said researchers at the seismological laboratory at the
University of Nevada, Reno.

Dormant volcano erupts

SANTIAGO, Chile - The long-dormant Chaiten volcano blasted ash some 20 miles into the Andean sky, forcing thousands to evacuate and dusting a huge stretch of the South American continent.
The thick column of ash climbed into the stratosphere and blew eastward for hundreds of miles over Patagonia to the Atlantic Ocean, forcing schools and a regional airport to close. Citizens of both countries were advised to wear masks to avoid breathing the dangerous fallout.
The eruption is the first in at least 9,000 years for the volcano in southern Chile, according to volcanologists at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington.

Strong earthquake rocks Greece.

ATHENS, Greece - A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.5 struck
southwestern Greece on Sunday, killing at least two people, injuring more than
100 and leveling dozens of homes, authorities said.
It was Greece's first fatal earthquake since 1999, when a 5.9 magnitude quake
near Athens killed 143 people and left thousands homeless.

Earthquake swarm picks up again in northern Nevada

RENO, Nev. (AP) - A months-long swarm of earthquakes picked up again Sunday as a
string of minor temblors rattled Reno, causing downtown high-rises to sway and
knocking items off walls and shelves.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or major property damage after about
20 minor quakes reported on the western edge of Reno over 12 hours ending about
noon.
Magnitude-3.9 and 3.6 quakes struck within a couple minutes of each other
shortly before 11 a.m. and were preceded by 3.2 and 3.0 quakes early Sunday,
said researchers at the seismological laboratory at the University of Nevada,
Reno.
"I was thinking, 'Here we go with the big one,'" said Daryl DiBitonto, a Reno
resident who felt the quake at home. "Late in the morning, I thought the whole
house was going to come down. Every time I feel a 3, I think it's going to be
the big one. Totally, everyone is on edge again."
Diane dePolo, a lab seismologist, said it was the strongest sequence of quakes
in the past month and signaled a pickup in activity after a recent lull.
"We had a little pickup in activity on Tuesday and nothing significant until
today," dePolo said. "We are monitoring them, but we can't say if it'll get
better or worse. There is no way to predict earthquakes."
Seismologists had urged residents of northern Nevada's largest city to prepare
for a bigger event after a 4.7 quake on April 25, the strongest in a swarm that
began Feb. 28.
That quake swept store shelves clean, cracked walls in homes and dislodged rocks
on hillsides, but there were no reports of injuries or widespread, major damage.
The swarm, which has produced thousands of mostly minor quakes, had prompted
some residents in the densely populated quake zone to spend nights outside in
campers and trucks.
"We live in earthquake country, and the threat is never over," dePolo said. "We
encourage people to be prepared."
Nevada is the third most seismically active state in the U.S. behind California
and Alaska. Reno's last major quake measured 6.1 on April 24, 1914.

AREQUIPA, Peru (Reuters) - A magnitude 6.2 earthquake shook southern Peru early
on Tuesday, killing at least one person in the Andean country's second-largest
city, Arequipa, and damaging scores of homes.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, China's recent earthquake was the 25th "significant" earthquake registered so far this year.
Back at the end of the 1960's, the USGS identified a total of seven "significant earthquakes." By 1969 there was a slight but discernible increase in worldwide earthquake activity since Israel's rebirth in 1948.
During the entire decade of the 1970s, the USGS recorded a total of 44 earthquakes it classified as "significant." The following decade, from January 1980 to December 1989, the USGS recorded 47 significant earthquakes. That is for the entire decade. From 1990 through the end of 1999, the USGS records 57 significant earthquakes. From 2000 thru to this recent earthquake in Sichuan, China, the USGS recorded an astonishing 109 earthquakes of at least magnitude 7.0 and 13 earthquakes measuring between 8.0 and 9.9 on the Richter Scale.
The earth has definitely become very unsettled. As we move forward this activity will increase and intensify. Add it all up, increased quake activity, increased storm activity, world wide food crisis, all aligned with the Jews back in Jerusalem means one thing. Jesus will be removing the true believers very soon. Be sure you are ready!
During tribulation the earth really gets a shaking.
Rev 6:12And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
Rev 8:5And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake. 6And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.

The largest earthquake so far in the world was a magnitude 9.5 in Chile on May 22, 1960.
